You Are What You Wear... in Paris

When I found out I was going to Paris for a long summer weekend my first thought was 'ohh the amazing outfits I can wear!'.

Actually, thinking about it, my first thought was 'Oh the amazing carbs I can eat!' followed soon after by 'oh how will I still fit into all the amazing outfits I can wear?'. Luckily for me I somehow managed to enjoy both.

As a fashion fanatic I've always adored the idea that we can write our own little style stories with the outfits that we choose to wear. As stylist Rachel Zoe once said, 'style is a way to say who you are without having to speak'.

The thing with me is, I'm a different person every day. On Monday when I'm all about my business I might want to rock a power suit. On Wednesday when I have client meetings I feel like the princess of prep sporting crisp shirts and loafers and by Saturday I'm back to being a badass bitch in leather leggings and court shoes.

As well as informing others of the mentality that I am bringing that day, (my friends know that when I come out in a leather jacket, I don't plan on getting home before sunrise) it also helps to remind me of the type of person I want to be. When I put on a business suit in the morning it's because I mean business. I want the people I'm meeting to know that I'm professional, responsible and in control and when I slip out of my business meeting and catch a glimpse of myself in the bathroom mirror, my outfit reminds myself of that too. I didn't dress like this because I had to. I wore this outfit because it represents the type of person I wanted to be that day when I woke up.

So when I finalised the Paris trip, I instantly got images of my Parisian self in my mind and the wardrobe that girl would have. As I explored the streets of Paris I wanted to feel elegant but carefree at the same time. That called for a wardrobe that was feminine and floaty. Sophisticated yet youthful. True Parisian chic.

Dressing well on holiday is especially important to me because it ensures that I'll get the best out of my trip. In Mexico my go-to evening look of beachy, salt water hair waves and a floaty, backless top reminded me to let my hair down, literally, and have as much fun as possible. This look reminded me to wander the streets of Paris with a big smile of my face and a spring in my step just like I had planned. After all, what's the use of a beautiful, flowy skirt like this if you don't skip? Of course, this outfit was really affordable too at under £30 from my favourite, TK Maxx.

Top: Ayanapa at TK Maxx | Skirt: TK Maxx | Shoes: Primark (past season and still going strong! Similar here) | Bag: Aldo similar(ish) here | Necklace: Lisa Taubes

If you're quick, you can catch my Paris trip on my Instagram stories, it'll be up until Wednesday morning. I'll also share more photos from the trip here in my next post this Friday. Since we did most of the tourist attractions last time, we spent a lot of time just exploring this time around and stumbled across some really cool little spots which I can't wait to share with you! In the meantime, you can browse my posts from the last time I went to Paris here when we visited the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées and other beautiful and iconic places.
